Welcome to the work of Alison Aye
Textile and stitching artist Alison Aye always presents a challenge for us - but one that we relish in bringing her beautiful artworks into print. This work, 'Homage to Delaunay', was a finely stitched tapestry, smaller than an A4 piece of paper, from which Alison wanted to create 50 limited edition and certified prints.
Our job on this piece was to adapt our lighting to create some depth to the stitching in order to bring the print to life - whilst our usual workflow gets rid of any bothersome reflections in artwork, here it was necessary to generate some subtle reflections and shadows to emulate the relief of the real-life stitching when it came to print.
Colour, Light, Depth and Shadows
Of course, light, depth and shadows are only half the story. Thanks to our fully colour managed workflow, we spent a good couple of hours matching each of Alison's fabric swatches to the correct hue and saturation on screen, and then of course using the 12 colour Canon giclée printers to translate those into the print.
Deckled Edges
The added requirement of seeing the deckled edge of the original artwork meant masking out the background to retain the natural edge of the paper - again, just some dedicated time and careful attention to detail brought out the features of Alison's piece here.
We're thrilled with the results, and we're sure Alison's customers will be too when they get the prints in hand! It's always a pleasure to push our boundaries.
Hahnemühle Hemp Eco Paper
This edition of 50 was printed on Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm paper from our eco paper range. Hemp’s lightly textured surface perfectly compliments Alison’s vibrant textile work and our 12-colour Canon giclée printer produces incredibly detailed prints with deep, saturated colours whilst retaining minute details, subtle tints and blends.
Each print has a Certificate of Authenticity and unique hologram for that extra bespoke touch.
