Tim Fowler

Tim Fowler’s botanical practice has its roots in the plants carried across the Atlantic during the transatlantic slave trade - species that travelled through history and displacement, and took root in new soils. That origin gives his work a charged undercurrent that sits in deliberate tension with its surface beauty.

Working at medium and large scale in acrylics, oils, spray paint, pastel and graphite, Fowler builds richly layered canvases in a signature palette of brilliant pinks and electric blues - vivid, harmonious and immediately recognisable. The result is work that operates on two registers at once: visually joyful, historically weighted. Fowler uses the language of botanical painting to open a wider conversation about nature, survival and cultural identity, inviting viewers to find beauty, resilience and historical context within the paintings.
