Steph Morris

Steph Morris draws by hand what most people would assume is a photograph. Working only in graphite pencil on paper, she renders the trainers and fashion objects of modern culture in hyperreal detail, each texture, stitch and reflection built up over as many as 100 hours. The result turns objects of mass production into slow, singular works, part portrait, part nostalgia.

Born in Manchester, Morris left a career in graphic design to draw full-time after an invitation from Reebok to show her work in New York. She has since been commissioned by adidas, Nike, Reebok, New Balance, Selfridges and Sneaker Freaker, and has exhibited in New York and Los Angeles, with a solo exhibition in Tokyo.
