If you're an artist selling prints online, there's a good chance you're also the one packing tubes, queuing at the post office, and holding stock you're not sure will sell. Print-on-demand drop shipping solves that problem - and it's one of the most practical ways for artists to turn a back catalogue of work into a steady, low-effort revenue stream.
At Klein Editions, we provide drop shipping and artwork photography, printing, framing and worldwide order fulfilment for artists, galleries and businesses selling their own work. Here's what that actually looks like in practice.
What Is Drop Shipping for Artists?
Drop shipping - also called print on demand - means a production studio handles everything that happens after a sale. You sell through your own online shop, we print, pack and ship directly to your customer, and they receive a professionally produced print with tracking, as if it came straight from your own studio.
There's no stock to hold, no trips to the post office, and no packaging to source and store. If you already make work that people want to buy, this is one of the most practical ways to build a new revenue stream from it, without taking on the operational side of running a print business.

Why Artists Choose Print-on-Demand Fulfilment
- No stock, no storage, no upfront investment. Prints are produced as orders arrive, so you only ever pay for what's already been sold. There are no printing costs before you know there's demand, and no unsold stock taking up space in a spare room or studio.
- Passive income from work you've already made. Once your shop is connected, your existing catalogue can continue earning without any additional day-to-day effort on your part.
- An order that still feels personal. Your branding, your inserts, your customers - drop shipping doesn't mean losing the personal touch that makes your shop feel like yours.
- Professional, archival-quality printing. We print on premium giclée papers, including the Hahnemühle range, and pack every order to museum standard.
- A lower environmental footprint. Because nothing is printed until it's sold, there's no overproduction and no unsold stock going to waste - one of the more sustainable ways for artists to sell.
- Reliable worldwide shipping. Orders are typically dispatched within three working days and shipped globally, with tracking sent automatically once an order is on its way.
How Drop Shipping With Klein Editions Works
The process is designed to be invisible to you once it's set up:
- A customer places an order through your shop.
- The order arrives in our system automatically.
- We print it, pack it, and dispatch it - with a tracking link sent straight back to your shop so your customer is kept informed.
That's it. No manual order entry, no chasing couriers, no forwarding files each time someone buys a print.
Every drop shipping client also gets automated order management, protective labelling (including your own branded stickers, if you'd like them), and post-sale support for dispatch and tracking queries. If a customer has a question about their order, you can simply forward it to us and we'll respond within one working day.
There's no minimum order and no commitment to volume - we fulfil print on demand, as and when orders come in.

Bespoke Finishing Options for Edition-Led Work
For artists whose work is edition-led or collector-focused, we offer a range of finishing options that go beyond a standard print-on-demand service: hand numbering, embossing stamps, deckle (hand-torn) edges, and framed prints shipped by courier to UK addresses.

For limited editions, we also produce certificates of authenticity on hologram-secured Hahnemühle paper, with full edition tracking and management included. These details help a drop-shipped print feel just as considered and premium as one you'd package and send yourself.

Choosing the Right Paper
We specialise in premium, museum-grade giclée printing designed to last. Our paper range spans every price point, from our own Klein house range through to the renowned Hahnemühle collection, including sustainable, eco-conscious options such as Hahnemühle Hemp.
We'll recommend the right paper for your specific work, and always encourage a test print before going live, both to confirm you're happy with the results and to give you material for your own print marketing. If you're new to printing and want to see and feel the papers first, you can book a paper demo at our Manchester studio, or we can post a swatch book free of charge to UK addresses (international artists just cover postage).

Getting Your Files Ready
If your print-ready files are already prepared, you can share them with us via WeTransfer and we'll keep them on file, ready for future orders. If you're not quite there yet, we offer a professional artwork photography service to create high-quality, print-ready files from your original paintings or artworks, along with file preparation for sizing, borders and signatures. If you're not sure where you stand, send us some sample files and we'll advise you.

Works With Your Existing Shop
We integrate directly with Shopify, Squarespace, WooCommerce, Wix, TikTok Shop, Bigcartel and more. If you're already selling, we can connect to what you have; if you're still setting up, we're happy to advise on the best approach.
If you use other suppliers for different products, that's no problem - we only ever receive the orders that are ours to fulfil, and disconnecting is just as straightforward as connecting, should your business change direction.

Is Drop Shipping Right for Your Practice?
Drop shipping tends to work best for artists who already have a body of work people want to buy, and who'd rather spend their time creating than managing orders. Whether you're just starting to sell prints online or already fulfilling orders manually by email and spreadsheet, moving to a full integration makes the process considerably smoother.
